Unlocking the power of genomic data with AI

Genomic medicine has the potential to offer deeper insights into how our genes shape our health and redefine how diseases are managed and treated. However, genomic data is often locked within PDF documents - accessible to treating clinicians but not for research and wider secondary use.

Roche’s groundbreaking partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Trust's Innovation Unit (GOSH DRIVE) has developed an AI-powered tool, the Genomic Information Finder (GIF), which uses Natural Language Processing (NLP) to automate the secure extraction of key genomic insights from reports into structured data at the click of a button. GIF extracts data in hours rather than months, a breakthrough that could transform how genomic data is accessed and used. By dramatically reducing data extraction time, GIF could open up new possibilities for hospitals, researchers, and patients, including faster and more efficient clinical workflows, significant time savings for expert NHS staff, cost savings for hospitals, accelerated research, improved diagnostics and faster treatment decisions, particularly for rare and complex conditions.

By making genomic insights so much more accessible, GIF has the potential to improve patient outcomes and drive the future of precision medicine.

All projects undertaken within the partnership are conducted within GOSH’s secure digital research infrastructure and no patient data is shared between the organisations or outside of GOSH.
