Patient Groups
Roche is committed to partnering with patient organisations for the benefit of patients in a way that is compliant with the ABPI Code of Practice. This includes the need to declare the nature and amount of sponsorship publicly and to accurately reflect the nature of Roche’s involvement on all materials relating to working with patient organisations.
In the UK, Roche's pharmaceuticals business works with patient organisations in three ways:
- Core financial sponsorship: Direct financial hands off support only intended for the human and physical resources needed to run the organisation and/or any activity that the patient group decides to carry out without reference to Roche, which might include materials and activities and is not permitted to be used for any other non-educational or social activities of the organization
- Sponsorship of arm’s length project or activity: Direct financial support where there is no Roche editorial or organisational involvement; the patient group retains sole ownership and control of the project or activity e.g. sponsorship to attend a conference or to produce patient literature.
- ‘Hands-on’ collaborative project or activity: Direct engagement as a partner of a patient group on a specific educational project to which both parties contribute. The patient organisation retains ownership and editorial control over the work. However, Roche will review work emanating from any collaborative activity to ensure factual accuracy, balance and compliance with the Code of Practice. E.g. a report which Roche and the patient group have collaborated to produce and have both agreed and worked upon the content.
In 2011 Roche is providing core financial sponsorship and/or sponsorship of specific arm’s length projects or activity to the UK patient organisations listed below, along with the amount of sponsorship provided. Details of additional ‘hands-on’ collaborative projects or activities can be found by clicking on the link next to each relevant patient organisation.
