Molecular diagnostics

Molecular diagnostics uses PCR technology for rapid diagnosis and disease monitoring.

Pioneers in molecular diagnostics

Nowhere else is the impact of molecular science more keenly felt than in the area of healthcare. Roche has been a pioneer in bringing molecular, nucleic acid based testing methods into routine diagnostic laboratories since the early 1990s when it acquired the patents for Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). This is a technology by which large quantities of nucleic acid are reproduced from small samples (blood, urine, swabs etc.) for research and diagnostic purposes (as well as by the police for genetic finger-printing).

Nowadays, molecular biology laboratories in the UK and Ireland rely on Roche to deliver innovative, cost-effective solutions for rapid diagnosis and monitoring of disease.
