Hospital in vitro diagnostics

Roche’s hospital in vitro diagnostics business provides integrated solutions to healthcare professionals within the secondary care environment, ensuring that patients and clinicians have timely access to accurate test results.

Hospital in vitro diagnostics

Our products are principally used in laboratories, operating theatres, A & E departments and hospital wards. They range from large core laboratory instruments including pre and post-analytical platforms that prepare and store samples, working along side analytical systems such as the cobas® 6000 and cobas® 8000 series that produce the test result. The portfolio also includes smaller analysers for use throughout the hospital including the single-test Accu-Chek® Inform II professional glucose meter and the cobas® b 221 blood gas analyser for medium-sized clinical laboratories. All of our solutions are supported by a comprehensive range of IT connectivity, e-learning and inventory management products.

Our products are used to diagnose and monitor conditions such as diabetes, heart failure, Down's Syndrome, infertility, thyroid and liver disease as well as infectious diseases and cancer. With new markers such as S100, we can also deliver increased medical value to clinicians in helping them arrive at quicker diagnoses and treatment decisions.

Our market place is undergoing significant change with ever present demand for Managed Laboratory Services. These arrangements require Roche, as the principal contractor, to source services from third party providers of diagnostic systems and products, in addition to providing our own instruments. As a result of the increasing scope and length of contracts, Roche works not only with biomedical scientists, doctors and nurses but also with senior hospital managers across the Supplies, Finance and General Management areas.

The Diagnostic Development Team is responsible for Roche’s Managed Laboratory Service product offering and liaises with third parties to build Roche’s Managed Laboratory Services consortia.

The hospital in vitro diagnostics business is also supported by a Laboratory Process Consultancy group which focuses on producing highly efficient sample workflows and on optimising organisation within the pathology laboratory.

On the support side, Roche has a team of field based training specialists, supporting the training demands of the decentralised market.  We also have the Hospital in vitro Diagnostics Technical Product Management group delivering office based application support and training courses and undertaking the technical product management for our portfolio of products.
