Over the last five years, Roche has put its environmental commitment into practice through the creation of two new sites for our UK employees.
Our brand new site in Welwyn Garden City, which is the base for our pharmaceutical teams, embodies sustainable architectural principles. Designed to cut CO2 emissions to around 20 per cent below building regulation limits, Hexagon Place achieved 10 out of 10 and an ‘excellent’ rating under the Building Research Establishment’s Environmental Assessment Method.
Roche's new UK diagnostics head office in Burgess Hill is itself a "recycled" building. Two previously unoccupied office blocks were refurbished and joined together by a stunning glass atrium. The employee restaurant sources its supplies from local providers where possible and also supports ethical trading programmes that give the producers a better deal. The Burgess Hill Head Office also won the “British Council of Offices” (BCO) Award for best fit-out of work-place for the South of England (2007) and the Mid-Sussex District Council Architectural Awards – for the completeness of its interior design (2009).
At both of our UK sites, we support and facilitate recycling and reduced consumption of materials. Both sites also have green travel plans and employees are encouraged to use alternative means of transport for their daily commute including local public transport, car sharing and cycling.
